Full-stack developer & DevOps engineer. Lead developer of NEST Desktop. Open to new roles in Freiburg.

I’m Sebastian Spreizer, a full-stack developer and DevOps engineer based in Freiburg im Breisgau. I have been building, shipping and running web applications since 2009, mostly for scientific users who need powerful tools that are still easy to use.

What I do

  • Full-stack development. As lead developer of NEST Desktop I own the product end to end: a Vue / Vuetify / TypeScript frontend, Python backends and interactive visualisation with D3.js, Plotly.js and Three.js. NEST Desktop is used in university courses and is available on the EBRAINS research infrastructure.
  • DevOps. I package services with Docker and Apptainer and deploy them on Rancher, OpenShift and OpenStack behind nginx. I also run the Linux servers and Git-based workflows that keep a research software project shipping.
  • Agentic coding. I work with AI coding agents to plan, implement, review and ship changes, and I build code generation tools such as Code Graph. This website was rebuilt that way.

Background

I hold a PhD in computational neuroscience from the University of Freiburg (2021). My research looked at how network connectivity and dynamics shape information transfer in spiking neural networks. Alongside the science I’ve worked on the NEST simulator and on HuMAM, a multi-area brain model simulated with NEST.

That background means I’m comfortable with complex domains, numerical data and close collaboration with scientists, as well as with production code.
